In November 2008, I posted a link here to an article on Aung San Suu Kyi published in Guardian newspaper. The title was ‘Not such a hero after all’. Then I asked my blog visitors to comment on that article, since it was an unfair attack on Aung San Suu Kyi and based on wrong facts.
I am now pleased to tell you that Guardian had issued an apology (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/jun/01/aung-san-suu-kyi-readers-editor) to Aung San Suu Kyi’s lawyer, who filed a complaint on behalf of her family member. They did not however withdraw the article but changed the title to ‘Can Aung San Suu Kyi lead while captive?.’
And the newspaper admitted that the authors made a series of mistakes. They retracted some of the claims they made in their original article, and the readers’ editor also issued a summary of their decision to apologize.
